If you are elected, what are your top five priorities during your term?
Create a cohesive consistent vision for the council to rally behind based on the pillars of safety and affordability. Goal: more focused council discussions, reducing time to make informed decisions.
Review the city roadmap and ensure capital investments are prioritized by risk and value. Goal: Invest in infrastructure more strategically to slow the rate of property tax increases.
Review and understand current city operational and maintenance practices and target process improvement and contract reviews to reduce the impact on residents during maintenance activities. Goal: Less frustration for residents affected by construction and faster construction completion times.
Improve overall safety in our city, including both physical safety and social safety for our residents.
Improve ease of mobility throughout the city focusing on improved public transit.
Do you believe that consultation (i.e. with online surveys) with the citizens of Regina should have more or less impact on decisions made by City Administrators?
I believe consultation is extremely important and residents' views should weigh heavily into those decisions. I also think it is important to strive for large sample sizes to ensure surveys reflect overall public opinion.
What are your thoughts on RPS’s current funding levels?
I believe funding levels for Regina Police are reflective of the current state of safety and reactive policing necessary in our city. I want to see more community and social services alongside RPS to do more proactive work in the community to reduce the reactive calls for service RPS receives.
What are your thoughts on the current plan to change Scarth Street from a pedestrian-only area into a regular street or mixed-use pedestrian/vehicle area?
I disagree with changing this to a regular street. I would be open to mixed-use based on time of year (i.e. pedestrian in summer, vehicle in winter).
What is the main source of your campaign funding? Are there any property development companies included in your list of donors?
To date, my campaign is fully funded by individual residents. There are no property development companies included in my list of donors.
What are your thoughts on the selection of the Eagle’s Club as a permanent emergency shelter by the currently sitting City Council?
I am happy to see this finally moving forward.
Do you support or oppose the following:
a. A new downtown arena for The Pats
b. A new ballpark for the Regina Red Sox
c. A new downtown Library Branch
d. A new Aquatic center
With only the details publicly provided for each of these, I will give you my overall thoughts. For Regina to grow and attract new residents and businesses, we need to provide infrastructure that allows people to live, work, and do activities in our city. Some of the questions I ask when I see these large capital investments proposed are: What is the value to our residents? Will it bring residents to Regina? Will it bring business to Regina? Does it provide something for residents or businesses that will keep them in Regina? Our residents feel the tax pressure of these investments so we need to be sure that by approving them, we can translate and realize the value it will bring to the city.
